FAQs

How do you want to use my lyrics, and how much do I get paid?
Gracenote has developed a variety of products and services for use across our customer base, from home media servers to mobile phones and web sites.  Each use will generate revenue for music publishers and each has a different royalty structure which is detailed in the term sheet and contract on the following pages.

Who is Gracenote and why should I work with them?
Gracenote is one of the leading technology companies in digital music and provides music recognition and management technologies to many of the largest digital music services in the world, including Apple, Yahoo, RealNetworks, AOL, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, KDDI (Japan), KTF (Korea), Oi (Brazil), Vivo (Brazil), France Telecom, Sony Connect, and many others.  We are also working with every major consumer electronics company in the world, including Sony, Philips, Panasonic, Pioneer, Samsung, Alpine, more than 30 others.  To see some examples of Gracenote-powered digital music products, please visit Powered by Gracenote. For descriptions of Gracenote’s other products, see the Gracenote Products web page.

Who else is participating?
So far, BMG, Sony/ATV, Universal, Famous, Peermusic, Bug Music, and others have signed on, with the remaining major publishers in final negotiations.   We are now reaching out to other important independent publishers to include their catalogs prior to launch.

How will I get paid?
Gracenote is working with CMRRA, who you may know as the company that processes royalty payments for mechanical licenses in Canada, to develop a database of lyric ownership information for the United States and Canada.  Gracenote will provide quarterly usage reports to CMRRA, who will in turn generate statements and payments to publishers.
