Who Can Affiliate?
1. Music Publishers who administer a single account (payee)
Any person or firm/corporation who owns or administers one or more musical works in Canada can affiliate with CMRRA.
2. Administrative Publishers
Those who administer multiple accounts (payees), or non-publishers representing multiple accounts, i.e. Law Firms, Management Companies, etc.
3. Self-Published Songwriters/Composers who administer their own publishing
If you’re a songwriter who hasn’t assigned your songs (sometimes called copyrights, catalogue, or “publishing”) to a publisher, administrator, or third-party service, you are effectively the publisher (also referred to as self-published songwriter). You can affiliate with CMRRA under your own name or a registered company name.
How to Affiliate
Getting started with CMRRA is simple — just submit the required forms and register your songs. Follow the steps below to complete your affiliation.
Stage 1: Submit Affiliation Forms
Please complete and submit the following required pages from the CMRRA Affiliation Agreement:
Step 1: Affiliation Selection Checklist (page 2): Provide the “Name of Publisher” under which you want to affiliate. This can be your own name if you do not have a separate publisher name. If you have a publisher IPI Number include it; otherwise, leave the section blank. Ensure that appropriate affiliation boxes have been initialed and dated.
Step 2: Electronic Funds Transfer Authorization (EFTA) Form (page 3): Fill this out if you have a bank account in Canada or the US. If not, please indicate it on the form, and we will follow up with you.
Step 3: Void Cheque or Direct Deposit Form: This is required in order to process your affiliation if you are submitting the EFTA Form.
Let CMRRA simplify your global royalty collection with our International Collections service. Through our partnership with SX Works, CMRRA proudly collaborates with global organizations like the Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC) and the Independent Music Publishers International Licensing (IMPEL) to provide music publishers and self-published songwriters an option to facilitate international licensing and royalty collection on their behalf.

Submit the completed affiliation forms to our Registrations Team at [email protected]. You will receive an immediate automated response to confirm receipt. If we need additional information, we’ll reach out to you, otherwise, you’ll receive your countersigned copy within 5-10 business days. Once you have the countersigned agreement and your account number, you will be ready to register your songs.
Stage 2: Register Your Songs
Once you’re affiliated with CMRRA, you’ll be able to register your catalogue, which is song(s) submitted for licensing purposes. There are three ways to register your songs:
1. CMRRA Song Registration Form: This allows you to easily provide ownership information for multiple musical works. This form can also be used to provide revisions of existing claims. The completed form is submitted via email
2. Single Song Registration via CMRRA Direct: This tool in the CMRRA Direct portal supports single song registrations and is intended for individual priority works with activity (streaming, airplay or other types of usage).
3. Common Works Registration (CWR): If you have a large catalogue of works to register, or multiple catalogues that you administer, the Common Works Registration (CWR) format is used in the industry by many music publishers. To learn more, please review the details in Help & Support.
Stage 3: Sign Up for CMRRA Direct
Once you’re affiliated with CMRRA, this portal provides secure access to your works, licence details, royalty information, and more. If you’re a music publisher, administrator, or self-published songwriter, click here to learn more or sign up.
