You’re back at CMRRA for a second time! Right now you’re working with the CSI Trust. Can you tell me about your job working with royalties and claims?
It is my second time at CMRRA and I’m happy I made the decision to come back. Even better, I couldn’t be happier to be on Joy’s team. She’s made this transition and re-acclimation for me super smooth and reassuring myself that this was the right move for my career.
I am enjoying my time working with the CSI Trust team especially when it gets to our quarterly adjustment period. As shares get paid into the Trust, it is our responsibility to dissect the reason as to why it is ending up in the Trust and then pay out the appropriate parties. We recently have been given a statistical look into our adjustments which really allows for a better understanding of how our work is impacting clients.
I’ve heard you’re passionate about MMA and that you also have a podcast about it! Tell me more!
That is true! I have been following the sport of MMA since 2007 and have been a die-hard fan ever since. I have worked with the UFC on a number of events as well as a ton of local MMA shows. After the realization of working with the UFC went down the drain when they sold to a company that cut back their employment by nearly 40%, I wanted to find a way to still be a part of the community and found a niche within the MMA betting realm. My YouTube channel centres around giving people advice on what the best odds for every UFC event. With the growth of the channel, I decided to add more content to it and it has slowly transformed into bringing in people involved in the MMA community for long-form interviews. I really do enjoy it and though it takes up a good chunk of my time, it is a passion of mine and I really enjoy every moment spent on it.
COVID-19 has meant that a lot of plans have had to rapidly adapt to the new restrictions. Your wedding plans had to be altered. What was the day like?
We were lucky that we were able to reschedule our entire wedding week plans to 2021, but we still wanted to have 06/06/2020 as the date we made things official. We still hired a minister and had 2 of our witnesses accompany us to a nice space outside the reception hall we have booked. It had a nice gazebo and green space that still allowed for a pleasant and intimate ceremony. The ceremony lasted no longer than 20 minutes and ended with us exchanging rings and sealing everything with a kiss! Later on that day we went home to my family, took pictures, Skyped with my wife’s family, then we were off to a cottage about 4 hours northeast of the city for 3 nights. We exchanged vows privately over campfire and had a wonderful time getting away from the city and getting lost in nature.
What are you listening to lately? Do you have a favourite songwriter?
My taste in music is very diverse, but currently I am getting back into Jay-Z. Ever since they put his discography onto Spotify I’ve been slowly rediscovering gems from the past of his. I’d have to put him, Eminem, and Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) at the top of my list of favourite songwriters.
