Interpreting Repertoire Search Results

The Repertoire search will return a list of possible matches for your search in a results grid. You can click on the View option to review the details of the work. If a work has an identified conflict in ownership, it will be flagged with a status of In Dispute, visible in the header section of the work details.

Work Numbers

The Work Numbers grid displays the following types of numbers, if present:

  • CMRRA Number
  • SODRAC number
  • ISWC
  • WID number

Contributor Details

The Contributor Details grid displays the following fields of data:

  • IPI Number – 11-digit number assigned to all members of Performing Rights Organizations (PROs)
  • First Name – Writer’s first name and any middle names, if present
  • Surname/ Account Name – Surname refers to a writer’s last name. For publishers, the Account Name will display the name of the publisher as registered with CMRRA
  • Role – the Contributor type:
    • E – Publisher – The interested party which has acquired by agreement with a composer and/or author the rights in a work for a stipulated territory and for a stipulated duration.
    • C – Composer – The creator, or one of the creators, of the musical elements of a musical work
    • A – Author, Writer, Lyricist – The creator, or one of the creators, of the text of a musical work
    • CA – Composer/Author – The creator, or one of the creators, of text and musical elements of a musical work
    • AR – Arranger – Contributor credited with the arrangement of an existing Public Domain work.
    • AM – Administrator – An interested party that collects royalty payments on behalf of a publisher that it represents
  • Represented  – Indicates if the account is affiliated for Mechanical Licensing

Artist Details

The Name of a recording artist associated with the work

Additional Work Details

  • Medley – A musical work which contains a combination of continuous and sequential existing musical work or excerpts.
  • Sample – The portion, or sample, of one sound recording which is reused/embedded in a different sound recording.
  • Mashup – A recording which results from the synchronization of elements from two or more recorded works.
  • PD Arrangement – A new arrangement based on the lyrics and or music contained within a public domain work. Under Canadian law, a PD arrangement is copyrighted for the life of the arranger plus 70 years.
  • Public Domain –  Under Canadian law, a musical work is copyrighted if its author is still living, or if the author died less than 70 years ago. If more than one author created the work, copyright extends until 70 years after the death of the last surviving author. In the language of copyright, “author” means both the composer of the music and the lyricist. If more than 70 years have elapsed, the work is said to be “in the public domain”.
  • Remix – A recording which results from an altering, removing, or adding to the original elements
