This month, we spoke with Karola Kinkel, our Senior Royalty Administrator at CMRRA.
Your hard work helps the royalties team process money for clients. Could describe the different things you do in your job at CMRRA?
Having worked in almost every department in the last 27 years, CMRRA is part of my DNA. I thrive on dealing with daily royalty inquiries answering all kinds of questions clients might have regarding payments, replacing lost or stale-dated cheques and researching statement issues. I take care of recoupments, refunds and am currently trying to persuade publishers to sign up for direct deposit. I am lucky to have a job where no day is the same! Internal projects and unforeseeable interruptions make for a multi-faceted workday which I love. I appreciate being able to work independently and having a great team of enthusiastic young people to work with.
We’ve heard you’re quite a motorcycling enthusiast and that you had a big trip last year. With the pandemic restrictions easing a little bit in Canada, will you be heading on any trips on your bike?
I bought a 1975 Honda 550CB for Mother’s Day last year and riding all summer never made me feel more alive. A trip to Cleveland’s Rock Hall of Fame, riding the Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point (0 to 120 mph in 4 seconds climbing straight up 420 feet) and standing on the equator during a motorcycle adventure in Ecuador made for the most memorable year yet. This pandemic puts it into perspective again; life is precious and we owe it to the people we have lost to live every day to its fullest.
What are you listening to?
When it comes to music I admit I am stuck in the 80s, but I also enjoy classical music and my current love – London Grammar – a British Pop Band with their moody songs. “Hell to the Liars“ is one of my favourite tune of theirs, it gives me goosebumps!
